I’ve Made it Into a New Weight Loss Club!

“If you are unwilling to risk the unusual you will have to settle for the ordinary”- Jim Rohn

Another day, another weigh in.  Before I step on I would like the almighty scale to know I come armed with the vitamin B shot I got yesterday and have a few Fat Burners in my system!  I have my energy back and I no longer want to eat my arm off, so I feel ready to step up to the scale.

Oh, and as for exercise, funny story.  I walked into the Y for the first time this Summer with my little guy, Drew, who was excited to play in the tween arcade area while I worked out. I noticed a fun new friend I  met at a party a few weeks ago and said Hi.  She quickly invited me to take a spin class with her. I yelped a, “no”, and nervously giggled.  What are the odds of this? I just blogged about spinning two days ago in I Feel Pretty! and now I was randomly invited to a spin class.

My thoughts shifted to childhood memories.  My Dad was what I call a “compulsive cyclist”.  He loved to ride his bike and even rode to work and back for a few years.   A typical Daddy and me day would include a two -four hour bike ride.  My Dad stood at about 6 foot 4 and I was about 5 foot 4. His long legs and strength powered his bike and I fought to keep up the entire ride.  My type A overly competitive Dad “motivated” me with statements like, “get those chubby legs moving, if you can’t keep up with a 40-year-old man, you are in trouble, are you ever going to break the wind for Dad?”

As soon as my trip down memory lane ended, I was confronted by my Son, Andrew. “Mom, you are going to take the class right? Come on you are a Hook (my maiden name).  What would your Dad do?” And then, he flashed his baby blues…

A few minutes later I found myself in the spin room staring at a stationary bike.  Well, best case I fall off the back and wake up beautiful and invincible, but I’ll settle for making it through the 45-minute class.

During the class, I tried to think about anything and everything but the class.  I motivated myself by thinking about my friend who just started varying her workouts and is getting great results and tried to remember the details about I blog I read about varying workouts the other day.  Of course, I compared myself to everyone in the room for a good ten minutes of the class because I am only human.  I looked at the board that ranked everyone in the class a few times and was happy I didn’t have my glasses on because I’m sure I didn’t want to know where I ranked.

At the end of the class, my friend asked if I liked it and I told her I had to think about it.  Wow! I love to walk, run, kayak, lift weights, take body pump classes, and yoga, but spin is its own bird. The teacher left me with memorable parting words, “Your butt is going to be sore for a few days, probably really sore”.

So almighty scale, here I come. 1,2,3… Bam!  Just like that. I’m in the club! I made it to the next weight bracket on the scale.  It’s the first time I’ve been here since October 2, 2017, around 7:30 AM!

Will you do “the happy dance” with me?

They Say Confession Is Good for the Soul, Hoping It’s Even Better for Weight Loss

“SLOW Progress is better than NO Progress” – Fitlosophy Calendar

I awake and move towards the almighty scale not really knowing what to expect.  Yesterday was a good enough diet day, not great but not bad.  It was a little off, ok, maybe more than a little.  I’m overdue for my vitamin B shot so I was exhausted all day and it was hard to muster up the energy to exercise.  The shot also contains inositol which really does great things for me.  It seems to drastically reduce my food cravings and help balance my blood sugar which makes me less hungry, so sans inositol I was very hungry all day. Check out https://draxe.com/inositol/

For the first time since she’s been driving, I eagerly jumped in the car with my 15-year-old daughter Taylor yesterday, so she could take me to the weight loss clinic.  I was excited to get my vitamin B shot and purchase a bottle of the Fat Burner.  The clinic is about 15 minutes of pure driving torture from my house.  When we got there, we discovered the clinic was closed for the day.  Ugh.  How could I be so irresponsible to run out of the Fat Burner and get behind on my vitamin B shot?  I thought about throwing myself on the ground and pitching a fit.  I also contemplated driving 45 minutes away to the next closest clinic, but my kids’ schedules wouldn’t allow for either, so I decided to wait until tomorrow.

As for exercise, I walked and did 8 minutes of kickboxing, but I couldn’t walk at the same intensity I normally do.  My Son’s amazing therapist and sitter, who has become an integral part of our family and has worked for us for over two years, is leaving for grad school in two days.  If that isn’t a reason to slurp down two martinis and a piece of flourless chocolate cake I don’t know what is.  Anyways, a potential babysitting candidate called right at the moment I was going to take off for a walk.  Finding good sitters that work for my special needs son is like finding gold on the beach, so I had to talk to her. I walked for our entire 40-minute conversation, but I didn’t want to scare her away, so I didn’t walk at my normal super-freak intensity.

Looks like the almighty scale is registering in at the same weight as yesterday.  I’ll take it for today.  I will be getting my vitamin B shot and Fat Burner today, and eating better and getting a better work out in, so the scale should know she’ll be going down!

I have a confession to make.  I eat processed food sometimes.  I don’t like to and with all the special diets we’ve been through with my son who has been affected by Autism,  I can’t even believe I do, but sometimes when push comes to shove, I eat processed foods.

And yesterday was one of those days.  I had a goal of starting to publish my food journals on Pinterest yesterday and almost didn’t because I was embarrassed by the fact that I had eaten processed food a few times throughout the day.  I stock a few of the weight loss clinics high protein low carb snacks so I have them in a pinch.  My favorites are the chocolate celebration delite bars and the BBQ zappers because they are both tasty treats that ring in at under 100 calories and 10 grams of protein.  They can be found in Tanya’s Treasures.

I have another confession to make.  I’m thinking of cheating on my diet. Well, I guess I have already kind of started.  I was googling around last night, and one click led to another……  I came across The South Beach Diet Super Charged.  I told you about Tony and my success with the South Beach Diet in 1,2,3 Ketosis Again, so how could I not be curious?  I ordered the book and well, we’ll see.

What about you, what would you like to confess?

Hey Scale – Timber!

“If the plan doesn’t work change the plan but never the goal” -Fitlosophy calender

I woke up exhausted. Since I’ve started this high protein, low carb diet, I’ve woken up at 6:37 AM every day, regardless of what time I go to sleep. Every other day, I have awoken energized and ready to take on the day. Last night I didn’t fall asleep until after midnight and 6 hours just doesn’t work for me – at all.

After waking up, I stepped up to the almighty scale and felt that she should give me extra credit for my efforts. I didn’t drink last night, and it wasn’t an easy decision. I had my Bunco babes over and let’s just say they are “my tribe”, you know, those friends that make you laugh so hard you are not sure if you are going to pee your pants, snort, cry, or do all three? Like always, it was a great time with the babes, this time I was sober, and I didn’t even touch the cheesecake.

Side note- I never thought I would be one of those people to talk about the dish I took to a party, but I took chocolate covered strawberries I’ve been making since I was on the Flat Belly Diet! They rang in at less than 80 calories each and they were divine! You can see the recipe on Pinterest.

Before I stepped on to the scale, I had a flashback from last night. My friend and I were discussing weight loss and she said she would like to do what I’m doing but couldn’t afford it. Wow, that hit me in the gut and the teardrops almost started to fall. Before I even knew what I was saying I responded with, “oh yes you can” and you can. I love the vitamin B shots but there are other options. You can get a high-quality sublingual vitamin B vitamin for less than twenty dollars and the Fat Burner supplement I take from the Tanya’s Treasures section,  follow my Pinterest for more specific information on the food, etc. I could even share my daily food and exercise diary with you. Just message me!

Without any further ado or flashbacks, I stepped on the scale to find out that it was still stuck! This was unfair! I literally started doing the breathing exercises from the Cortisol Reduction Plan! I thought to myself, “Ok Tanya, isolate the x. There must be something you are doing or not doing that your body is not resonating with. I feel swollen and I’m not sure why but for some reason my legs feel very bloated and I’m exhausted. Taking an hour and ½ away from my sleep schedule is not helping at all. Could inflammation and sleep be the problem?”

Since my exhaustion was overwhelming, I decided to take a nap and investigate possible causes of the inflammation when I wake up. Before I napped, I just wanted the almighty scale to know, she’s going down!

What are you taking down today?

Monday Morning Weight Loss Tune Up!

Be stubborn about your goals and flexible about your methods – Eamonn McCrystal

It’s Monday morning and time for a Monday morning weight loss tune-up!  What has changed in the last week since I have been on this low carb, high protein, moderate fat diet? This might be a surprising answer coming from someone who has held the nickname ‘Sleeping Beauty’ for most of her life, but I don’t need as much sleep now.  As a matter of fact, I’m waking up an average of two hours earlier every day!

Time to Weigh In

Having more energy and feeling great are awesome side effects of this diet, but in all honesty, the real change I’m hoping for can only be reflected on the scale.  I’m nervous to step on the almighty scale, so this morning I dry brushed myself and went to the bathroom one more time.  I stepped on with one eye closed.  2.1 pounds lost since last week.  Not too shabby!

The inner Sales Manager in me surfaced and I quickly started coaching myself.  “Great results. Let’s celebrate! O.K. brainstorm time, let’s find a way to celebrate that doesn’t involve food or alcohol….. How about a pedicure? Now it’s time to dig in so we can be sure you get even better results next week.”

Let’s look at last week’s Monday morning weight loss tune-up.  Where are you at with those activities? Where am I? Let’s delve in.

Food Journal

I start out great every morning and then it just seems to fall off.  It is a priority for this week because I have scheduled an appointment to meet with the Dietician at the weight loss clinic to get her opinions and suggestions on a few things and I can’t expect her to help me if I can’t provide her with a complete food and exercise journal.

Alcohol

No alcohol until at least Friday, August 3rd – So far so good and just 5 more days to go.  Let the countdown begin!

Fiber

Check. I now take two fiber pills twice a day. It seems like they make me less hungry and help to balance my blood sugar a bit.  I love the ones I’m taking because they are not crazy hard on your stomach, so I’ve included them in  Tanya’s Treasures.

Yoga Time

Spend more time on my yoga mat 2-3 times a week – Ugh.  Oh Man.  Epic fail.  Not even one tick mark. It is so frustrating because I know yoga is one of the most helpful things I can do for my weight loss but it’s so hard to get there with the kids’ Summer schedules.  Can I make it once this week? Let’s reset the goal to 1.

Weights

Lift weights 2-3 times this week – Crushed it!

Supplements

I’m currently taking Daily Fiber Caps, Fat Burner, Inner Balance, Cellulose, and Vitamin D3-K2 Emulsion.  Last week I bumped my fiber uptake up to two supplements twice a day.

I take two Fat Burner a day and they seem to be working.  It’s been a gradual change in my hunger, cravings, and body composition but all the changes have been positive.

The Inner Balance significantly helps constipation that often comes hand in hand with a high protein diet, but I’m feeling like I need a little more help.

I fell in love with cellulose over twenty years ago and have been taking it on and off ever since.  I feel it helps reduce cellulite and keeps water weight and inflammation down.  For some reason, I stopped taking Cellulose the recommended 3 times a day a few years ago and cut down to 2.  I will be ramping back up to 3 times a day starting today and will report back to you.

Vitamin D3 deserves a blog of its own.  I honestly can’t imagine life without it.  A fantastic naturopath I worked with years ago recommended D3 be paired with K for better absorption and it seems to make a tremendous difference.  The supplements can be found in Tanya’s Treasures.

Reflecting on Goals

After reflecting on the goals I fulfilled and didn’t fulfill this week, I thought to myself, “Is there anything that is holding me back from my goals or that I could do better or more efficiently?” And to be honest, there is this one thing; I feel a little backed up, bloated, or should I call it constipated, even though I am going to the bathroom once a day.  I feel like I need a cleanse.  My body is so tricky, and I have tried so many cleanse products that have worked incredibly well for my friends. Two different well known and well-respected cleanse programs have landed me in ER and Urgent Care.  After about fifteen years of trying cleanses, I stumbled on one I love a few months ago.

Ok, quick confession, I didn’t stumble on the Ultimate Cleanse.  It may have been the pictures of Jason Morgan from General Hospital that got my attention. I clicked on them and somehow ended up on his website: https://www.burtonnutrition.com/

Next Week’s Weight Loss Plan

And the plan for this week is now set:

-Food Journal

-No Alcohol until August 3rd

-Continue to take 4 fiber tablets a day

-Yoga at least once this week

-Lift 2-3 times a week

-Start the 15 day cleanse

This week looks like a great time to cleanse, doesn’t it?

Celebrating A Non Scale Victory!

“Hold the vision.  Trust the process.”  – Unknown

I started my day frustrated because the scale was stuck at the same number it had shown for the last two days, and when I gave myself an extra dry brushing and stepped on the scale again, I found that it was still stuck.

A few minutes later, I was grabbing my keys to take my Daughter to tennis lessons when she said, “Mom, I was looking through photos on my phone and you look a lot smaller than you did a few months ago”.  Whoa!  A compliment from a cynical teenager must equal or mean more than a number on a scale, right?  Then it occurred to me that this might be a ploy to ask for money.  My face must have shown my skepticism because my daughter quickly offered to show me the picture.  She was right, even I could see, that person in that photo didn’t really look like me anymore!

I’d like to celebrate this non-scale success by thanking you.  I’ve received so many amazing supportive emails, texts, blog messages and Facebook messages.  It’s been heartwarming, humbling and motivating! I’ve also received a lot of questions and I’d like to answer as many of them as I can.

First, I am not on the Keto Diet or South Beach Diet.  I am on a diet through a weight loss clinic. The first 4 days of the clinic’s diet is designed to get you into ketosis.  During that time, you eat 800-900 calories of protein, no carbs or healthy fats.

I do not take the appetite suppressants the clinic offers.  When I was in my twenties I took an appetite suppressant and it turned me fifty shades of crazy, so I opted out of that plan.

The weekly vitamin B shots seem to be helping a lot.  They have vitamin B12, Choline, Inositol, Methionine, B1, and B6.  They give me energy and take away cravings.  I literally haven’t craved a food in weeks!

I take a Fat Burner twice a day which is a combination of herbs, minerals, and extracts that increase fat burning and boost energy. My Dietician at the Clinic told me the fat burners would also help make me less hungry and it’s helped quite a bit.  I’m basically in love with the Fat Burner because I’ve never been able to tolerate one before.  My system is so fussy, I have literally tried over ten supplements for fat burning and haven’t been able to bear a single one.  They have all agitated my acid reflux, made me jittery or kept me up at night. You can find a link to the fat burner in Tanya’s Treasures.

Since I obtained Ketosis, I am now eating 800-900 calories of protein a day, 2 healthy fats, and 2 servings of fruit or vegetables.

Several followers and friends have asked me why I’m blogging. My first reason is somewhat selfish and it’s because I feel accountable to you and I’m confident that the accountability will help me stay on task and ultimately reach my goals. I also feel that as women, we are all in this together, and I would love it if my confessions and the discoveries I make along the way help you.  Lastly, I love to write and would love to grow my blog and its followers, so please, if you think of someone who might enjoy my blog or better yet, benefit from it, please share it with them.
